What it does
The check estimates typical production for a system, compares optional recent generation, adds recent sunlight and rain context, finds a lower-risk service window and screens for nearby hail history.
Where the data comes from
Production estimates use NASA POWER's 20-year monthly solar climatology, adjusted for system size, panel direction and typical system losses. Recent solar and precipitation observations also come from NASA POWER. Forecasts come from the U.S. National Weather Service. ZIP coordinates come from Zippopotam.us, and hail history comes from a third-party public radar-history service.
The state pages
Alongside the array check, ArrayCare publishes a solar-resource page for every state: average irradiance month by month, what that works out to per kW installed on the same assumptions the check uses, and the spread across the state.
They stop at the state because the data does. NASA POWER's climatology is a grid of roughly 55 km cells, and two points 40 km apart return identical numbers, so a page per ZIP code would be the same page eighteen times over. Each state is sampled at up to eight distinct cells and the page prints the range rather than a single figure.
What it cannot tell you
ArrayCare cannot inspect your roof, read inverter faults, model the exact tilt, account for every obstruction or confirm damage. Its production baseline, location inputs and hail screens are coarse. A gap from the estimate is a reason to check dates, monitoring alerts and installer documentation—not a diagnosis.
Safety first
Do not climb onto a roof to inspect or clean solar panels. Start with ground-level monitoring and use a qualified professional when physical access is required.
